Gina Hannon’s classroom buzzed with excitement as her fifth-grade students eagerly presented their projects to their fourth-grade peers at Taft Elementary on Monday, May 6, 2024. Thoughtful pieces of artwork decorated students’ desks as they spoke with each other about their projects, based on their unit where they learned about ancient Mayan, Aztec, and Inca civilizations.

Standing in front of Washingtonville High School alongside Superintendent Dr. Larry Washington and other officials, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus announced the launch of a groundbreaking School Bus Safety Program in collaboration with school districts countywide and BusPatrol. The initiative aims to address the critical issue of motorists illegally passing stopped school buses, thereby endangering the lives of children.

First Grade Art Club, at Taft, learned the placement of the features and what a self-portrait is. Each student drew a self-portrait and added colors and shapes to represent their own unique personalities.
