Third grade engages in community building lesson

Barbara-Jo Grausso’s third grade class, at Taft, recently engaged in a toothpaste lesson during one of their community building activities. The class discussed inspiring words and phrases and ones that are hurtful.

Then, students worked in groups to squeeze toothpaste onto a heart. The task was to try to put the toothpaste back into the tube with a toothpick. They found that this was difficult and learned that hurtful words and phrases are like the toothpaste in their activity; they stick and are hard to take back. Students found that “toothpaste words” are hurtful and they should always choose their words carefully.
