First grade learns about the phases of the moon

Leyna Gonzalez and her first Grade scientists have been learning about the phases of the moon. They created a model using a styrofoam ball to represent the moon, a flashlight to represent the sun, and their own heads to represent the Earth.  They were able to work together to observe how the sun illuminates the moon and how the location of the Earth, sun and moon change the appearance of the moon. They recorded and labeled the new moon, first quarter, last quarter, and full moon in their science journals.
